POST Plus is a major system used by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement
(LCLE)
to track qualifications for Sheriffs'
deputies around the state. Deputies must qualify for state supplemental pay by
meeting the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) minimum qualifications.
The POST Plus system helps LCLE track the thousands of officers, including
prison guards, contained in the system.
The scope of the workload is statewide, and in terms of volume, is quite large,
involving database information on over forty thousand registrants from peace
officers to firearms instructors. POST Plus effectively addresses each of the
following key areas, while keeping current staffing levels stable:
Peace Officer Registration
Administration of POST Basic Training Courses (Certifications)
Evaluation of Training Centers (Tracking)
Concealed Handgun Permits
Administration of POST Instructors
Annual Qualification Requests from Firearms Instructors
Voice Stress Analysis
LCLE Management Online Access to POST Data
Certification Status Request
POST Council Agenda Management
All processes in each of these areas were analyzed and documented to reflect the
most efficient way to support the individual functional area, and this
information provided the basis upon which the POST Plus system design was built.
One of the important benefits of the new system is the ability of POST managers
to view performance indicators for training courses. These performance reports
list number of officers certified, date of the exam, academy name, total amount
reimbursed, etc.
