Using the Internet and relational database technology, we re-engineer old, disparate legacy computer programs into integrated, user-friendly systems aligned with the core missions of our clients. Below is a case study outlining the details of a project in which our main challenge was organizational integration.

Case Study

OMNI Safety Risk Management, Inc. (OMNI-SRM) partners with commercial and industrial businesses to assess and eliminate risk. Their services include safety and loss control, loss prevention programs, monitoring and review of claims activities and much more.

OMNI-SRM offers multiple types of coverage to businesses throughout Louisiana, including workers’ compensation, professional liability, general liability and property coverage. As new businesses are enrolled by OMNI-SRM, on-site property inspections are scheduled to detect potential safety hazards so that OMNI-SRM can make recommendations for improvement. After the initial inspection, OMNI-SRM conducts follow-up inspections on a set time interval or when claims are filed due to an accident or injury on site.

Previous procedures at OMNI-SRM required employees to complete lengthy field inspection reports and then file them with the company’s Loss Control Division for further analysis and processing. As business grew and the number of inspections increased, OMNI-SRM realized their labor costs were rising and they were wasting time with their paper-based system.

Technology Engineers’ was brought in to integrate OMNI-SRM's safety inspection process while building a more comprehensive risk tracking system for the Loss Control Division. Our experience in developing web-based systems and relational databases, as well as our ability to work closely with management and internal IT staff, were cited as key factors by OMNI-SRM management in their selection process.

After a review of the project, Technology Engineers proposed creating a system that not only scheduled inspections, tracked noncompliance, and generated customer correspondence, but also incorporated an information asset (database) to be used for analysis of trends. Vice Chair Melissa Campesi led a group of OMNI-SRM managers and IT personnel as they worked closely with a team of Technology Engineers’ analysts, graphic designers and programmers under the direction of Senior Vice President Bob Antin. Together, this group documented the requirements of the system, developed prototype Internet forms, created a relational database and interfaces, and charted a smooth transition into the new system.

The completed system consolidates and integrates a system of on-site risk assessments and exposure evaluation surveys used as part of OMNI-SRM’s total risk management solution. OMNI-SRM employees now work in ONE integrated system, and their employer database is linked to OMNI-SRM scheduling and email systems. The innovative system positions OMNI-SRM to handle future growth economically and efficiently. It meets a specific need of OMNI-SRM by interfacing directly with the older, legacy systems used to manage its large portfolio of clients.

OMNI-SRM views this system as an investment in an information asset that will return handsome dividends for many years to come.
